This is literally the American capitalist system. No welfare at all. No Healthcare unless you work.

Unemployment insurance, which you pay for in your paycheck, is tied to accepting the next shitty job that comes along.

Reagan and his policies enacted by Republicans for 40 years are to blame for this, not Biden.

Biden can't hope to change this with the Senate as it is.

i’m not sure why some of y’all are so intent on defending this dude and acting like he has no power but the literal point is that biden isn’t just upholding an existing policy that was established under reagan; he is publicly promising to actively enforce this policy during a pandemic while people like service workers still do not have the option of safe employment.

we have seen elected leaders on the municipal and state level exercise emergency executive powers multiple times for things like calling in national guard on unarmed protesters, restaurant capacity restrictions, and institutional closures. the president has similar powers. also if he cared about not killing low income workers he could oh idk use his veto power as the goddamn president? or at least attempt to rally senate dems to oppose this like an actual leader? also haven’t any of you noticed that the president (and democrats use this the most imo) is only “powerless” when it’s something that might be unpopular with moderate voters lol

anyways it’s very weird how y’all view the president as some kind of helpless figurehead and not an extremely powerful person who makes decisions on when and how to wield that power
